Our Influences : Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock

Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was a British film director and producer. He pioneered many techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres.
Over a career spanning more than half a century, Hitchcock was renowned for his distinctive and recognisable directorial style. He pioneered the use of a camera made to move in a way that mimics a person's gaze, which engages the audience in a form of voyeurism. He framed shots to maximise anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative editing.
This is a technique which we would like to incorporate in our own work, we want the audience to feel as if they are viewing something which they shouldn't. This is particularly key as our video has a strong social theme which we want to present effectively. We also want to frame the shots where our main protagonist is looking particularly upset or distressed for maximum effect.
Many of Hitchcock's films have twist endings and thrilling plots featuring depictions of violence, murder, and crime, although not as extreme as Hitchcock's work, our own music video has pretty dark ideas.
This is the famous shower scene from the 1960 film Psycho, which is the probably the most well known of Hitchcock's films.
